The passage
of Check 21 has streamlined the check clearing
process in the United States. Previously,
all checks had to be physically sent to the
bank on which they were drawn for payment.
Now checks may be cleared electronically,
using only an image of the original check.
iStream Imaging has responded to this legislation
by offering an electronic check clearing,
or Remote Deposit Capture system, which allows
companies to make deposits from their offices,
without even going to the bank. Markron,
Inc. attaches an iStream check scanner to the
company's computer and installs iStream's proprietary
software on the computer. The user need only
log on to the system and run the checks through
the scanner. Images are transferred through
a secure, SSL encrypted electronic courier.
Checks are cleared and funds are deposited
into the company's existing bank account.
Images of each check, deposit slips, and customized
reports are available to the company on the
system at any time.
